In musical theater, we sing because our characters are feeling something so monumental, it is beyond speech. There is no other option. We cannot speak it—we must sing it!

Participants of this workshop will leave knowing the difference between singing a song and performing a song, and they will gain the skills to do so in their schools, community theaters, auditions, and beyond.  Class will start with group warm-ups and vocalization/storytelling exercises. We’ll talk about good vowel and breath technique, musical theatre technique, singing with emotion and beauty, dynamics, and healthy vocal expression.  Coaching will include both vocal and acting technique. There will be a short showcase for parents on the last day.  Participants will gain confidence, along with a new strategy they’ll use to approach future songs. They will leave the workshop with a finished product ready for auditions, recitals, showcases, etc. Participants can bring a musical theatre solo piece of their choosing, or the instructor can choose a piece for them.  This workshop is open to beginner to intermediate young vocalists.  Participants should have a basic comfort level of presenting in front of others.
