Charter Arts Big Band earns Superior Rating
On February 21, the Charter Arts Big Band participated in the SteelStacks High School Jazz Showcase at ArtsQuest’s Musikfest Cafe.
This year, the Charter Arts Big Band received a score of “superior” marking the third time the group has received this high of a rating. Previously, the Charter Arts Big Band from the 2013-14 school year received a “superior” rating at each stage of the competition. This is a big accomplishment for the group!
PMEA Band Festival
In early February, the PMEA District 10 Band Festival took place at North Schuykill HS. Mr. Wells joined the participating students along with guest conductor, Greg Martin. At the festival, the roster for Regional Band was also announced. Two students will be moving on to Regional Band.
Students earn Spots at PMEA Districts
PMEA District 10 Honors Orchestra and Concert band rosters were announced this week, and the seven students earned seats in the District Band and District Orchestra ensembles. Congratulations!
Mr. Brown and several students performed at the Bethlehem Salvation Army during its annual holiday service. The students enjoyed celebrating the season with this wonderful organization. They led a sing-along of holiday favorites, and then joined the attendees for a festive luncheon.
Jazz Workshop at Moravian
Several instrumental majors along with Mr. Lorenz participated in a special jazz workshop at Moravian College on November 19.
Charter Arts has been named a GRAMMY Signature School Semifinalist for 2016
Go Charter Arts! The GRAMMY Foundation released the list of schools that have made the semifinals for 2016. Charter Arts is one of the schools in the running!
Finalists will be named in March, and each finalist school will receive a grant.
Mr. Lorenz enjoyed performing with Lena Hall and Josh Groban at the opening ceremony of the U.S. Open in New York City. Mr. Lorenz is a member of the Charter Arts Instrumental Music Faculty- Jazz Studies.
This year, a Charter Arts instrumental music major was one of only two Lehigh Valley students selected to participate in the Macy’s Great American Marching Band at the 88th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
