The mission of the LVPA Theatre Department is to expose young artists to the multitude of works, theories and practices essential to an understanding and appreciation for Theatre Arts, as well as to foster the inherent talents of our students and to encourage them to confidently share their creativity with the world at large.
A message from Diane Wagner Dobrowolski
Director, LVPA Theatre Program
The Department of Theatre is proud to offer a pre-professional training program for high school aged performers. Our goal is to provide students with the skills they will need to move on to competitive college programs as well as professional theatre experiences. Classes are designed to encourage students to create imaginative and compelling characters, to regard their voices and bodies as creative instruments, to expose them to theatrical literature and to instill in them a sense of respect and professionalism for the art form that will stay with them throughout their lives.
Throughout the curriculum, students will be introduced to the full range of theatre’s aspects, techniques and traditions. Working with first-rate instructors with professional experience and background, they will learn the diligence needed to succeed on stage and elsewhere.
We encourage our students to regard the work they do in class as performance. Our goal in this department is to train actors, not breed stars. It is our hope that students and parents will commit to having a positive attitude about casting and understand that disappointments are equally as valuable to a young actor’s development as their accomplishments.
I would be happy to speak with you and your family about the opportunities in the LVPA Theatre Department. Please feel free to contact me, or to come meet our fantastic faculty at one of our Open House evenings.
