Melissa teaches French, levels 1 & 2. This is her first year at LVPA and is thrilled to be teaching in an artistic community.
Melissa enjoyed singing in district, school & church groups growing up, but her passion was dancing (ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, lyrical, and modern), from age four, on into her college years. She was in the Penn State Abington Dance Company. She graduated from Penn State, University Park, in 2004, with a Bachelors Degree in Secondary Education- French Teacher Option. She has taught at a charter school in Philadelphia, at a public school in the suburbs, and for the summer Upward Bound program at UPenn.
Melissa’s other interests include spending time with her two little girls, Nadia and Laila, as well as traveling. She has been a part of, or organized three exchanges in France, has taken a 3-week French course at the Université de Montreal, in Québec, Canada, as well as spent time in francophone West Africa and Puerto Rico, among other countries.
Her hope is to open students’ minds to and spark their interest in a world outside of their own, so that they are more globally aware, equipped to travel, transform, work and thrive in a new global society.
