Dance Faculty
Amy Berry is a professional dancer, teacher and choreographer who began her training in her home state of West Virginia. She then received her B.S. in dance from Radford University where she studied Graham modern technique from Pegeen Albig and classical ballet under the direction of Frano Jelincic and Dagmar Kessler.
While at Radford, Amy performed roles in works such as Doris Humphrey’s “Passacaglia and Fugue” set by Jennifer Scanlon, original works choreographed by Arturo Fernandez and John Parks and in the many ballets such as “Giselle”, “Coppelia”, “The Nutcracker” and “Swan Lake”.
She also received the Horth Summer Study Scholarship to attend Bates Dance Festival in 1997. After college, she spent time in NYC training with Jaclynn Villamil, studying with various artists and beginning to hone her teaching skills. Ms. Berry performed with a non-profit modern company called the Kitchen Sink Dance Company under the artistic direction of Michael McGowan for several years. She also served as rehearsal assistant for the company and helped to develop and maintain an apprentice program for young dancers.
She has a great deal of teaching experience with all ages and levels of students and has taught classes at the Muhlenberg Community Dance Center, The Spence School in NYC, Morgantown Dance Studio in Morgantown, WV, Momentum Dance Center in Clarksburg, WV, Northampton Community College and Moravian College. Each year, Amy continues to develop and express herself creatively by choreographing new and interesting works for dancers at Charter Arts and beyond. She is proud to have been on faculty at Charter Arts since its inception in 2003.
