Quilt is the culminating event of a year- long rehearsal and performance course. All dance students audition for and are placed with a member of the Charter Arts dance faculty who will create original concert length work or restage existing choreography. Students are educated and involved, in numerous ways, casting through performance, in the creative process of making a dance, producing a dance concert, and participating as performers. Students also have the opportunity to audition for guest choreographers whose rehearsals are held after school.

Concert Director, Jennifer Weaver, defines Dance Soup as “A meaningful avenue for students to showcase a diverse array of choreographic expressions; all while exploring the effects of their artistic choices.” While Jennifer is out on maternity leave, we are happy to announce that Lisa Busfield will take on the role of Concert Director.
Dance Soup provides students with the opportunity to practice the skills they learn in Improvisation and Dance Composition classes. Through a lengthy process involving faculty acceptance of a student proposal, the auditioning of fellow classmates, settings rehearsal schedules, creation of a work, and attending mentoring sessions with faculty members, the student sharpens their leadership and choreographic skills.
