ACTING WORKSHOP: Improvisation and Movement

Session Dates:  July 15-19
Session Time: 9:00 AM- 12:00 PM
Fee:  $195
Instructor: Amanda Lissette

Amanda Lissette is happy to be back to host an improvisation and movement workshop this summer. Students will be using improvisation exercises to sharpen skills, increase creativity, emphasize the need to embrace the ideas of others, and handle uncertainty, with or without a partner on stage, in an inventive way. With movement exercises, they will work to use their body to create the world of characters and how they move through it, telling a story using only physical movement.  These skills will benefit the young actor’s ability to think on their feet creatively, master cold reads for auditions and/or callbacks, and bring bold choices to the projects they work on. The week will culminate with a short showcase for parents/guardians. Open to children entering 7th-9th grades (older students may also be considered).

Comic Book Storytelling

Session Dates: July 15-19
Session Time:  9:00 AM-12:00 PM
Fee: $195
About the Instructor: Scott Beatty

Calling all Super-Fans! Comic book character creation and strange new world-building are at the heart of this Summer Academy workshop with Literary Arts teacher and graphic novelist Scott Beatty, who has authored hundreds of adventures for many of comics’ most iconic characters including Batman and Robin tales for DC Comics, as well as The Phantom, Buck Rogers, and Sherlock Holmes for Dynamite Entertainment. Beatty has also contributed comic book stories to IDW Publishing, Dark Horse Comics, and Crossgen Comics.  You’ll learn about the history of comic books, how graphic novels are produced, and then you’ll create the secret origin of your own character and chronicle their first adventure in script and art! Students will get to showcase their creations during a short ‘talk-back’ session, pitching their work just like comics pros, with parents and families on the final day of class!  Open to children entering 6th-9th grades.
